Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be received by email 30 days prior to the workshop to receive a refund, less a $50 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given after August 23, 2020. You may send a substitute in your place at any time.

Scholarship Opportunities

WACUBO offers professional development scholarships to employees of WACUBO member institutions. These scholarships will go toward all or a portion of the registration fees of an annual conference, professional development workshop, or other WACUBO sponsored professional development programs

Scholarships DO NOT cover other expenses (e.g. travel, incidentals, etc.).

If you intend to apply for scholarship funds, please secure your space in the workshop by registering and selecting Invoice Me as your payment option. If you are not awarded a scholarship and choose not to attend the workshop, you will be able to cancel without penalty with notification sent to the WACUBO Office 30 days prior to the workshop.

Parking is available for $26 per day. Travel to the hotel from the airport varies in cost. Cab fare totals range between $20-$30 or the TRAX Light Rail Green Line is available for $2.50 each way. 

While you are here, enjoy some of the outings Salt Lake City has to offer. If you are limited on time to explore, enjoy free wine hour at the hotel each night at 5:00 pm and book yourself an in-room spa service to relax after a day of workshop education.

Three C's of Higher Education Budgeting: Concepts, Creation, and Connections September 22

This highly interactive workshop will focus on basic higher education budgeting concepts, budget development and management, and its connection to an organization’s mission and goals. Through budgeting process case studies presented at the workshop, participants will be provided with practical tools and strategies to apply to their day-to-day work.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop participants will:

  • The concepts and components of a higher education budget process
  • Create a budget for a sample program or department
  • Review tools/techniques for on-going budget management
  • Propose and evaluate budget options through workshop case studies
  • Recognize connections between the budgeting process and institutional mission and goals

Who Should Attend

This workshop is designed for professionals who are new to higher education, those with little exposure to budgeting, and those responsible for financial oversight in departmental and academic units and who want to enhance their knowledge in budgeting processes and fiscal stewardship.

Within higher education, we need to be both resource managers with a sense of stewardship, and leaders helping move our teams forward through engaged leadership. This workshop will cover theory and practical application, through the use of case studies and reflection, to explore how a leader within higher education can both manage resources smartly and lead people with intent and vision.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop participants will:

  • Identify supervisor, manager, and leader behaviors and how to do so intentionally
  • Express individual leadership values and behaviors
  • Discuss how to practically apply concepts to case studies
  • Complete a leader development plan to continue individual leadership learning beyond the workshop

Who Should Attend

Anyone interested in learning more about balancing the need to be both leader and manager within higher education. 
The workshop is structured to be flexible and utilize the expertise and experience within the workshop. The workshop is appropriate for both current and aspiring leaders.
